French Pen Pals

Posted by mrjholmes on Sunday Jul 1, 2018 Under Years 3 and 4

A few months ago, the children of year 3 and 4 wrote to a school in France, writing their postcards in French which was quite tricky. On Friday, we were delighted to have received a reply. Every child that sent a postcard received a personal one in return so we now know the names of the French children we are writing to.

One of the children commented on their handwriting and said, “It looks a lot different to our writing and looks like it would be difficult to write like that all the time!”

Let’s see where this pen pal journey takes us next…

Science Afternoon @BHS

Posted by bedaleprimaryschool on Thursday Jun 21, 2018 Under Years 5 and 6

On Tuesday 19th June, ten Year Five children took part in a science afternoon at Bedale High School.

We discussed what compression and tension mean. Also we learnt the importance of them. Tension is essential in bridges so we made one out of spaghetti to hold a 1kg weight. If your bridge held the weight then you won some sweets; all of our pupils won!

As well as that we did an experiment with an elastic band to see how far it stretched as we increased the mass attached to it.

Everyone enjoyed the day and we would all like to go back.

Camp Hill

Posted by mrjholmes on Thursday Jun 14, 2018 Under Years 3 and 4

Camp Hill

This week, our year 3 and 4 children went on an active school trip to the Camp Hill Estate. The days were full of adrenaline and team building activities that got all the children well involved. Each team took part in five stimulating events that included ‘all aboard’, a low assault course, ‘nuclear waste’, shelter building and a 10m climbing wall. Lots of children conquered their fears, especially with the climbing wall. Bailey, from year 4, who managed to reach the summit said remarkably, “I’m scared of heights and didn’t think that I could it.”

Many of the children have said that this was one of the best experiences they have had in school and really enjoyed working as a team with others who they might not have worked with in school. Harry, from year 4, loved the trip saying, “Every activity was loads of fun and I really want to go again.” As usual, the children conducted themselves extremely well which allowed all of the activities to run smoothly.
