Quick Sticks Hockey

Posted by mrjholmes on Monday Mar 4, 2019 Under Years 3 and 4

First day back and Bedale were straight into action with a Quick Sticks Hockey tournament.

15 children represented the school across 3 teams. It was evident that the children had been paying close attention in their PE lessons as they produced some excellent pieces of play. In particular, the defending and tackling was really accurate and controlled.

Everyone battled well through the cold winds but didn’t quite make it past the quarter final, however, one of our quarter final games was taken to golden goal and then to a 1 v 1 which was extremely exciting for the spectators.

Crakehall were the eventual winners of the tournament.

Thank you to all who took part.

Science Week 2019

Posted by mrjholmes on Tuesday Feb 19, 2019 Under Years 3 and 4

Year 3 and 4 have really enjoyed our Science Week. We have thought really hard about the Plastic Pollution and have explored lots of ways of Reducing, Reusing and Recycling plastic products.

We have made green houses and successfully grown cress seeds.

We have produced persuasive videos to encourage people to Reuse, Recycle and Reduce.

We have explored the different types of plastics that are used in our everyday lives and where they could end up.

Finally, we have created things made from ‘junk-plastic’ that might have just gone in the bin, including: pencil cases, bird feeders, toys, pencil pots and flower pots too!

Well done to all the children in years 3 and 4.

Girls Football Level 2

Posted by mrjholmes on Tuesday Dec 11, 2018 Under Years 5 and 6

Tuesday afternoon was the new date for the girls Level 2 football tournament. In cold wintery conditions, the team worked really hard together and were up against some tough opponents.

The tournament proved to be difficult with the girls coming away with 2 draws and 2 defeats. Our goal came in a 1-1 draw against the eventual winners. The girls all did themselves proud and can walk away with their heads held high. Maybe next year…

Elf Day!

Posted by bedaleprimaryschool on Friday Dec 7, 2018 Under EYFS, Years 1 and 2

The festive season started in full swing on Monday December 3rd as 200 “elves” arrived in school to help Santa with his Christmas preparations. A letter was received from Santa explaining how he was struggling to fulfill his Christmas obligations, with a plea for the KS1 children to lend a hand. They spent the day involved in a range of festive activities including making gifts, wrapping presents and then weighing them to check if they would fit in Santa’s sleigh. The children also made some lists of their own, with their requests to Santa, as well as creating some beautiful decorations for the classrooms. A Christmas sing-a-long was a highlight of the day, getting everyone into the spirit. A fantastically fun day was had by all!

Girls Cluster Football 2018

Posted by mrjholmes on Tuesday Nov 27, 2018 Under Years 5 and 6

Bedale C of E girls had their eagerly awaited chance to show off their football skills today in the Cluster Level 1 competition. On a cold, rainy and windy day, each and every one of the girls didn’t seem to mind. They just wanted to play. Showing tremendous attitudes, respect and teamwork, the team came out on top, winning all 5 games to nil! What an achievement!

Goals came from everywhere, especially from the prolific Evie and Natasha up front.

We are all really excited for the next round. Time and place TBC.

Brilliant Bridges

Posted by bedaleprimaryschool on Sunday Nov 25, 2018 Under Years 5 and 6

We tested the first of our completed art-straw bridge designs this week, seeing if they could hold a maximum mass of 3kg. In Mr Hartley-Haw’s class two of our constructions held this load. Well done to Sarah, Ebony, Adam, Archie, Josh, Jack H, Aston and Hayden for their bridges. We evaluated our designs, using the successes and failures of others, and suggested how to improve them next time. Double-layered decks and linking our reinforcing triangles together were the two improvements most groups would make.
